Feed Prices
The market for straights saw a mixed bag between June and July. Soyameal Hipro in July averaged £262/tonne, a fall of £1/tonne (0.4%) compared to the previous month. Looking at the previous year, the average July price was £47/tonne (15.2%) lower compared to the average price in July 2009.
Rapeseed meal (imp) increased by £10/tonne (5.4%) between Jun and July to an average of £196/tonne. The July average price is also an increase of £40/tonne (25.6%) compared to July last year. Feed wheat prices also increased, albeit slightly, between June and July from £108/tonne to an average of £109/tonne - a £1/tonne increase. There has been some concern that with the increasingly dry conditions, crop yields for wheat may fall which could push prices up towards the end of the year.
Dairy rations saw most prices remain the same between June and July. Intensive energy rations remained at an average of £189/tonne which is £6/tonne (3.1%) down on the previous year. The only ration to show an increase between June and July was low energy although this only increased by £1/tonne (0.6%) to £157/tonne.
Average prices for protein concentrate remained unchanged across all specifications between June and July with high protein at an average of £292/tonne which is £2/tonne (0.7%) down on July 2009.
