EU Milk Deliveries

Monthly EU Milk Deliveries

  • In June, 11.9m tonnes of milk were delivered to dairies in the EU 27, 194,900 tonnes (1.7%) more than in June 2009.
  • France showed the largest year on year increase in volume terms with June 2010 deliveries at 1,963m tonnes (2,021m litres) - an increase of 61,500 tonnes (63m litres).

* Figures from January 2007 no longer include Malta's milk delivery data due to confidentiality, however it is estimated they only produce around 3,000 - 6,000 tonnes per month which would not substantially affect the percentage increase/decrease shown.

EU 27 milk deliveries to dairies stood at 11,887 thousand tonnes for June (equivalent to 12.2bn litres).  Compared to the previous year, this is an increase of 194,900 tonnes (1.7%) - equivalent to 200.6m litres.

Cumulatively, deliveries for the 2010/11 year stand at 36,217 thousand tonnes (approximately 37.3bn litres) - 244,000 tonnes (251m litres)  above the same period last year.

EU Milk Deliveries

Comparisons between countries showed that the majority of EU member states showed an increase in  deliveries between Jun 2009 and June 2010.  Looking at the 5 largest milk producing members (German, France, UK, Netherlands and Italy) gave a combined figure of 7,472 thousand tonnes (7.7bn litres) which was 184,100 tonnes (2.5%) more than the previous year, equivalent to 189.6m litres.

In terms of volume France showed the largest year on year increase with June 2010 deliveries at 1,963m tonnes (2,021m litres) - an increase of 61,500 tonnes (63m litres) compared to the previous year.

A May average price of €28.82/100kg (25.48ppl) for the EU-25 was €0.19/100kg (0.7%) up on the previous month.  Compared to the previous year, the May price was up €3.68/100kg (14.6%) compared to May 2009 - equivalent to 2.56ppl. For more information on EU milk prices click here.
