EU Milk Deliveries

Monthly EU Milk Deliveries

  • In November, 10.7m tonnes of milk were delivered to dairies in the EU27, 160,000 tonnes (1.5%) more than in November 2010*.
  • Poland showed the largest year on year increase in percentage terms with November 2011 deliveries at 732.1 thousand tonnes - an increase of 60,200 tonnes (9.0%).

*Figures from January 2007 no longer include Malta's milk delivery data due to confidentiality, however, it is estimated they only produce around 3,000 - 6,000 tonnes per month which would not substantially affect the percentage increase/decrease shown. Cyprus is yet to report November 2011 data.

EU27 milk deliveries to dairies stood at 10,665 thousand tonnes for November (equivalent to 10.4bn litres).  Compared with the previous year, this is an increase of 160,000 tonnes (1.5%) - equivalent to 155m litres*.

Cumulatively, deliveries for the 2010/11 year stood at 136,350 thousand tonnes (approximately 132.4bn litres) - 3,420,000 tonnes (3.3bn litres) above the 2009/10 year.

 

EU Milk Deliveries

Comparisons between years showed that of the EU27 member states (excluding Malta), 16 showed an increase in deliveries (in thousand tonnes) between November 2010 and November 2011, while seven member states showed decreases. The five largest milk producing members (Germany, France, UK, Netherlands and Italy) produced a combined figure of 7,058.3 thousand tonnes (6.9bn litres) which was 129,000 tonnes (1.9%) more than the previous year, equivalent to 126m litres.

Poland showed the largest increase in milk deliveries in percentage terms, with November 2011 production up 9.0%, equivalent to an increase of 60,200 tonnes on the previous year.

The November EU27 weighted average price stood at €35.24/100kg (31.14ppl), €0.32/100kg (0.9%) up on the previous month. Compared with the previous year, the weighted average EU27 price for November was up €1.93/100kg (5.8%) - equivalent to 1.74ppl.
