Monthly Milk Deliveries

Note: this month's milk deliveries data from the RPA and DARD give figures for December 2011 which are provisional and subject to change.   

In December:

• UK milk deliveries amounted to 1,095m litres, 23m litres more than the previous year, equivalent to a 2.2% increase.
• Provisional GB deliveries were up 1.5% (15m litres) year on year, totalling 940m litres.
• Deliveries in NI reached 155m litres according to provisional figures, which was a 6.2% (9m litres) increase on deliveries for the same time last year.

UK production in December 2011 was up 2.2% on last year's December figure. The 2011/12 milk year so far is stronger than last year with cumulative deliveries at 10,118m litres, which is 73m litres (or 0.7%) more than at the same time in the 2010/11 milk year.

Cumulative deliveries for the 2010/11 year stood at 13,332m litres, an increase of 507m litres (4.0%) compared with the same period in 2009/10 and the highest since 2006/07.

GB deliveries stood at 940m litres in December 2011, 15m litres (1.5%) up on December last year. Northern Ireland deliveries increased in December year on year possibly due to its export market continuing to benefit from the high commodity prices seen in recent months; December 2011 production was 9m litres (6.2%) higher than the December 2010 figure at 155m litres.
