Slurry production is a major issue on most dairy farms due to the high cost of providing storage and the cost of spreading. The revision of the Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ) regulations now affects 68% of England, 4% of Wales and 15% of Scotland.

In addition to legislation, slurry is important as a source of nutrients with an average value of £78 per cow produced per year. With the cost of fertiliser rising there is an obvious cost saving opportunity where slurry can be used effectively.
