The information on this site and contained in our printed materials reflects the current state of scientific knowledge in the area of nutrition and health. In the coming months the European Food Safety Authority will be giving positive and negative opinions on a series of nutrition and health claims. The EU Claims Working Group comprised of representatives from the EU member states will then ratify or reject these opinions and they will be adopted onto an EU Community Register of permitted and rejected. We will be keeping a very close eye on these developments and will be updating our information and materials in accordance with the Register. (Updated April 2010.)

The Dairy Production pack, a resource exploring aspects of dairy farming and animal welfare and supporting science and geography at Key Stages 1 and 2.
Developed and written by practicing teachers, the Dairy Production pack:

• Introduces pupils to the working life of a dairy farm
• Explains how the natural life process of the cows form the basis of the dairy industry
• Demonstrates the importance of good animal welfare practices
• Follows the processing story from farm to table

The Dairy Production pack contains:

• Teachers' Notes booklet with background information and curriculum links
• 10 colourful activity cards for pupils with a variety of practical activities and investigations and lots of great photographs
• Colourful poster for classroom display

Milk Magic
Published: 2004
Milk Magic is an interactive education pack aimed at raising awareness of the health and nutrition benefits of milk and methods of milk production in Scotland. The materials are relevant to a number of areas of the curriculum but in particular to the attainment outcomes 'people and place' of the Environmental Studies Guidelines 5 - 14:Social Subjects (Levels A - D) and Health Education Guidelines 5 - 14: Nutrition Education (Levels A - D).

Special features include:

• Notes for teachers with curriculum links and background information
• Background text for direct teaching or for independent use by learners
• Flexibility of use - Milk Magic can be used as a self-contained learning and teaching resource, complement existing topic studies or sources and be used to supplement programmes of study
